Blue Spike, LLC filed a patent infringement lawsuit yesterday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas naming 22 defendants, including Facebook. Blue Spike is a technology company owned by self-described inventor and steganographer Scott Moscowitz. The complaint alleges infringement on four different patents:
U.S. Patent No. 8,214,175
U.S. Patent No. 7,949,494
U.S. Patent No. 7,660,700
U.S. Patent No. 7,346,472
All patents are described as “Method and device for monitoring and analyzing signals.” In essence, the patents describe methods of using a “digital fingerprint” to identify unauthorized or pirated digital media.
